Inspired by the long history of the Silk Road, Silk Bistro is an all-day dining destination that celebrates the richness of Asian culinary traditions through a contemporary approach. The establishment is set within historic buildings where heritage is not only preserved in the architecture that surrounds the space, but also expressed through the flavors served at the table. Much like the Silk Road that once connected cultures through trade and storytelling, Silk Bistro embraces that same spirit of exchange, bringing together ingredients, techniques and culinary influences from across the continent.
Standing at the front line are Chef Freddie Salim and Chef Kartika Chandra, whose shared passion for Asian cuisine shapes Silk Bistro’s culinary identity. Through their cooking, they elevate what was once simply a home-cooked meal into something loftier for modern urban people. For Chef Owner Freddie Salim, ingredients also play an essential role in bringing these flavors to life. “We use only premium Australian beef, probiotic chicken, and eggs from happy (cage-free) chickens in our menu. Our tofu and tempeh come from organic, non-GMO soybeans as we collaborate with farms that practice permaculture, where the entire ecosystem is intended to remain sustainable. What’s on your plate isn’t just delicious. It’s wholesome too,” he said.
Silk Bistro is home to two locations—Menteng and Pakubuwono—each rooted in the same vision of a modern bistro set within a heritage-inspired setting. While each space has its own distinct character, both are designed with the same sense of warmth and familiarity, balancing timeless architectural details with a relaxed atmosphere that feels easy to settle into. Together, they reflect Silk Bistro's continued growth and its enduring connection with the communities it serves.
